Book description

Hollybee Hope wants a Prickly Coat is a story of self-acceptance, of learning to see being different as an advantage rather than a disadvantage. It is also a story of friendship - the type of friendship for which you'd sacrifice something special. Written and illustrated by one of New Zealand's most established and popular picture book creators, Hollybee Hope wants a Prickly Coat is the second title in this charming collection (following Hare, published 2016)
Book Reviews
The language is rich with some lovely vocabulary included within the text to start deep learning conversations. There are also design features that will help introduce youngsters to the wonderful world of words, with italics, ellipses and exclamation marks throughout. Those features make it a nice book to read aloud as well, allowing for a full range of expressions and the characters really come to life. Hinde's almost whimsical illustrations are a delight. Her animals are realistic, while also being full of character. With hints of Beatrix Potter, the palette is muted but also wonderfully deep and detailed. ... A deceptively simple book, it is much more than just a story of a hedgehog with no prickles.
Rebekah Fraser - NZ Booklovers
'The language is lively and rich, and Deb Hinde's illustrations are an absolute delight. A gang of cute critters working together to solve Hollybee's prickly problem.
Kids will love it.
